Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. on the Banu Israil, Al-Masih Al-Dajjal, Palestine, Isa Al-Masih & the fate of Mankind in the End Times.

The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. said in a hadith that the Al-Masih Al-Dajjal (The False Messiah) will appear as the King of the Banu Israil at the end times and lead them to what will eventually be their final punishment from God al-Mighty for a people that continuously rebelled against Him and killed the Prophets that were sent to them. The recent events this past week in Palestine again remind us of that future foretold by the Prophet, which also frighteningly describes an accurate picture of the condition of Muslims in the world today.

For the Palestinians facing the bombardment of the Israeli army, the statement of the final Prophet gives a powerful hope for justice. It promises the suffering that the people of Palestine is facing may merely be another chapter to end the fate of a rebellious people, and through which a tremendous reminder will be given to all mankind of their gross disbelieve in God and to ultimately return their servitude to the One God, Allah swt. The Prophetic description of the upcoming event to take place in the land of the Anbiya features a prominent role for the Banu Israil, who will be misled by the ultimate deception that they self-create due to their own wish-fool believe in the coming messiah whom they insist has not arrived for them. Their arrogance to reject Isa Al-Masih (Jesus, the true Messiah) is what seals their own fate as they have for all the years held on to a false believe that the Messiah has not come. And that believe has shaped all the efforts and actions that led the Banu Israil to the land that will witness their final punishment from Allah at the hand of the real Messiah, Isa Al-Masih who will return to fulfill the prophecy of Rasulullah s.a.w. He, Isa (Jesus, the true Messiah) will kill the King of the Jew, Al-Dajjal (the False Messiah), and with that the false system of life championed by them will be destroyed by Isa who will rule the land in peace. Dajjal will be supported by the army of Ya’juj wa Ma’juj who originated from eastern Europe and today can be symbolically described as the forces that supported and brought the Jewish people back to Palestine into the country they now call Israel. Their destruction will be in the hand of God al-Mighty.

With that Prophetic vision and reality in mind, the Palestinians will never give up their fight for the liberation of their land that was given to the Banu Israil by the biggest daylight land robbery ever done in modern history. Orchestrated by the network of influential members of rich Banu Israil families who have close ties with the powers of Europe at that time. The Palestinian are there to see out the fulfillment of the Prophecy as they will be the instrument through which the world will see the truth of who the Banu Israil really are.

The majority of the Banu Israil today in the country called Israel are made up of Askhenazi Jews who are descendents of Jews from eastern Europe, who Arthur Koestler in his book 'The Thirteenth Tribe' mentioned are not original Jews from Palestine but descendent of a European race who originated from the Caucasus region of Europe. They converted to Judaism in the 7th century. This 'new' Banu Israil has become the dominant voice of Jews in the world and they now believe in the total takeover of the land of Palestine for themselve as that in their believe is the prerequisite for the Messiah to come once the temple of Jerusalem is rebuilt on top of the remains of the old temple that today includes the Masjidil Aqsa. Failure to understand this fundamental core motivation of the Banu Israil in Palestine will miss the point or raison-d-arte for the upheaval in the past there as well as the most recent this past weeks. How do we tell a people that their belief in the coming of their messiah is wrong? The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. told them so more than 1400 years ago and failed to convince them about it, do we think we can?

The struggle of the Palestinian even though it may be for a return of their land which were stolen from them, is honourable and should receive the support of any decent human being who believe in justice, law and order. The struggle of the Palestinian is made even more honourable when we see it through the words of the Prophet s.a.w. who mentioned of the believers who will be the fighters that Isa Al-Masih (Jesus - the True Messiah) will lead when he returns to destroy Al-Masih Al-Dajjal (The False Messiah)and the army of Jews with him as well as the forces of Ya'juj wa Ma'juj who are the forces supporting the army of Al-Masih Al-Dajjal. We do not know whether the current outbreak of aggression by the Army of Israel will lead to the final battle, so we can only be prepared and ready to react in accordance with the prophecy of Ar Rasul s.a.w.

For the Palestininan dying today they are all Shuhadah, and as Shaheed, they are promised Paradise. And they are not dead but alive with Allah s.w.t.

"But do not think of those that have been slain in God's cause as dead. Nay, they are alive! With their Sustainer have they their sustenance, exulting in that [martyrdom] which God has bestowed upon them out of His bounty. And they rejoice in the glad tiding given to those [of their brethren] who have been left behind and have not yet joined them, that no fear need they have, and neither shall they grieve:" Al-Imran 3:169-170.

Thus, while we grieve for their death, we rejoice at their martyrdom.

Finally let us reflect on the following thoughts. Before Adam the first man was created by God, there existed on earth a dominant force of chosen beings that rose to prominence for their role of restoring order to the chaos on earth due to the rebellion there of other beings against God. This 'righteous' race of being was so successful in their work for God that they were placed on par with the angels in the sight of God. However, when God decided to create another being to replace them on earth, they became envious and allowed that envy to finally cause to themselves rebel against God. That being is Iblis, of the Jinn, who is still hard at work with his satanic forces today to lead as many mankind with him to hell.

Today mankind long after Adam, is nearing the end of his life chapter on earth and will begin its new cycle of life in the next phase of existence in the life hereafter, either of eternal suffering in hell or permanent happiness in Heaven. And again we see a similar pattern emerge of another 'chosen people' that turned arrogant and finally misleads itself into delusional self-belief that goes against God Himself.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. prophesised, the end times will witness mankind living a life in rebellion of God in a system of life that rejects God and His Laws and instead advocates an anti-God system. This system is massively unravelling as we speak, as can be seen from the collapse of the disastrous riba-based financial and economic system, the rupture of family values, the decline of morality, the hypocrisy of democracy, etc. The system that governs the world today is advocated by and can be traced to ideologies of the followers, active or passive of Al-Masih Al-Dajjal who team-up with the forces of Iblis for the purpose of rebelling against God. Iblis once pledge before God after his arrogant rebellion that he will cause all mankind to follow him to Hell. A totally separate discussion is required to explain this fact.

So what can we do today living in a world dominated by the Dajjalic system. Let us heed the advice of the Prophet s.a.w. on what we must do when we are unfortunate to be living in the period that he described as the worst time that mankind could ever live in. Among his many advices, he stressed that we should read Surah Al-Kahfi and memorise the first 10 verses. The Prophet s.a.w. mentioned that it will protect us from Al-Masih Al-Dajjal. Read the meaning of the words of the Surah to realise how important and significant the advice of the Prophet s.a.w. is today.

I end as I begin, with the Banu Israil, whose acts in Palestine this past 2 weeks triggered a massive outcry in the world. It is important to seek out understanding of the current event from what Allah s.w.t. described in the Qur'an and through the words of our Prophet s.a.w. For that, let us make the effort to read about this race of people that Allah s.w.t. chose to be an exampler but instead failed and rebelled and distorted His message to suit their own perverted belief. Only by doing so, will our reaction to what is happening today in Palestine be coherent with the spirit of the Qur'an and the advice of the Prophet s.a.w. The end is just beginning.

Istighfar dan Syukur

Segala puji-pujian hanya utk Allah swt, Tuhan seruan sekelian alam. Selawat dan salam keatas junjungan nabi Muhammad s.a.w., keluarga baginda, para sahabat dan setiap muslim yg meneruskan usaha menyampaikan ad Deen sehingga hari qiyamat.

Adalah menjadi lumrah manusia utk menunding jari kearah selain diri sendiri. Memang menjadi suatu kebiasaan yg harus dikawal demi meningkatkan penguasaan diri dan menjadi lebih jujur kepada diri sendiri dan orang lain.

Dalam konteks kerja-kerja dalam jamaah manapun dan dalam berpersatuan sering sekali akan berlaku perubahan dalam memperlaksanakan program dan halatuju berdasarkan proses-proses 'annual planning' dan reviu. Selalunya perubahan berupa kaedah dan strategi yang digunakan sementara ideologi dan filosofi tetap kekal. Pada masa di akhir sesi pimpinan setiap tahun ataupun 2 tahun akan berlakulah proses reviu dan introspeksi diikuti oleh rancangan bertindak seterusnya utk sesi baru dengan kepimpinan baru.

Sering juga berlaku semasa proses reviu suara-suara lantang yang memberi masukkan, kritikan, ide2 dan sebagainya. Kemampuan utk menjalankan perbincangan dgn sifat terbuka, jujur dan adil dalam suasana hormat menghormati merupakan suatu yang baik dan mendatangkan banyak faedah dan keberkatan.

Dalam kegairahan proses itu, haruslah dielakkan daripada berlakunya tuduh menuduh maupun sikap bangga diri yang hanya akan mengakibatkan ketegangan dan yang lebih buruk lagi perpecahan. Sukar sekali utk mengawal diri dari mendabik dada setiap kali terlihat suatu program yg tidak mencapai objektif maupun menimbulkan masalah, jika kitalah yg kemarin tidak setuju dengan program tersebut.

Agak mudah utk siapapun mengkritik apabila insan yg dikritik tidak ada untuk membela diri. Pada saat itulah menjadi tanggungjawab semua utk memberi penjelasan atau pembelaan yg jujur dan adil. Sebaliknya sifat mencemuh dan berdiam menjadi jalan mudah yg diambil. Apa yg dilupakan ialah program yg bermasalah itu sebenarnya telahpun dipersetujui semua dan menjadi program jamaah juga. Jadi marilah kita mengambil sikap yg dianjurkan oleh Rasul s.a.w. utk sama-sama mempelajari daripada apa yg telah berlaku sebagai itibar dari Allah s.w.t. utk kita semua. Bukankah benda itu berlaku kerana Allahlah yang telah mengizinkan ia utk berlaku?

Jemaah dalam membuat keputusan setelah berlakunya proses perbincangan harus bertawakkal dan apabila 'outcome' telah terlihat kita haruslah redha dengan erti kata yg sebenar-benarnya. Walhal pesan Ar-Rasul s.a.w. lebih jelas lagi. Kalau ide kita diterima beristighfarlah dan kalau ide kita ditolak bersyukur dan pujilah yang Maha Esa.

CINTA PADA MANUSIA

“Saya selamat. Sudah jalankan tugas saya.”

Itulah nilai manusia Muslim akhir zaman ini. Sekadar jalankan tugas. Kononnya memenuhi kehendak amanah yang dipikul. “Melepaskan batuk di tangga.” agaknya.

Untuk merubah sesuatu kemungkaran, mungkin dilakukan dengan beberapa cara. Wasiat yang Rasul s.a.w. pernah tinggalkan berupa teguran dengan kekuasaan (tangan), ungkapan (lisan) ataupun jiwa yang tidak meredhai (hati). Baginda sempat juga mengaitkan tindakkan insan itu dengan tahap iman.

Allah s.w.t. berfirman dalam Surah Al Mulk, bahawasanya Dia menjadikan hidup dan mati sebagai medan perjuangan insan bagi menentukan siapa yang melakukan sebanyaknya perkara atau perbuatan ehsan.

Adakah perbuatan ehsan yang Allah s.w.t. inginkan sekadar ‘jalankan tugas’?

Tentu tidak. Khazanah kisah para Rasul serta para Anbiya mencontohi kita betapa murninya tindakkan mereka yang terdorong bukan untuk sekadar ‘menjalankan tugas’. Contoh terhebat adalah Rasulullah s.a.w. yang menjanjikan kita umatnya sifat jiwa manusiawi dan cinta yang sungguh luar biasa. Baginda akan menunggu setiap umatnya di hujung siratul mustaqim dan mendoakan syafaat supaya umatnya yang beriman bersama-samanya menjejakkan kaki di syurga.

Sifat cinta pada setiap manusia inilah yang sangat dirindui oleh setiap makhluk. ‘Bagaikan punguk merindukan bulan.’

Allah s.w.t. yang menciptakan manusia, mengtakdirkan sifat-sifat yang semulajadi dalam diri kita yang menyediakan setiap manusia untuk mencapai derajat melebihi para malaikat ataupun lebih rendah daripada haiwan.

Bagi masyarakat Islam di sini, kita hidup dalam konteks Negara Singapura yang berbilang kaum dan agama, kos kehidupan yang tinggi, sistem pendidikan yang serba modern, budaya sosial yang sangat terbuka dan akan lebih terbuka, dan yang hampir keseluruhannya mencontohi kota-kota unggul negara-negara barat.

Negara ini menjanjikan peluang tersendiri bagi rakyatnya dan sekaligus risiko-risiko yang harus kita bersedia untuk menerima maupun menghadapi. Kita telah lihat pelbagai usaha dari bermacam pihak untuk membantu umat Islam di sini mengharungi kehidupan yang penuh cabaran. Sudah tentunya usaha-usaha itu terdorong oleh pelbagai sebab dan juga mempunyai matlamat akhir untuk membantu memperbaiki keadaan umat Islam kita di sini. Namun banyak tanda tanya terhadap keberkesanan usaha-usaha kita itu. Adakah kita umat Islam di sini lebih terancam dibandingkan dengan umat Islam di negara-negara yang lain?

Sedang kita memikirkan dan merancangkan suatu pelan tindakkan untuk menanggani liku-liku kehidupan umat Islam di negara ini, marilah kita juga merubah sikap dan sifat dalam diri dan jiwa kita. Sekurang-kurangnya itu pasti merupakan suatu yang kita mampu dan tidak ada alasan langsung untuk tidak melakukan.

Apakah ia?

Kikiskan sifat kita yang merasakan bahawa perubahan yang boleh berlaku bergantung kepada usaha kita dalam merubah dan memberikan kesedaran pada orang lain. Hakikatnya ialah yang mampu merubahkan jiwa adalah Pemilik jiwa itu sendiri.

Betapa benarnya yang perlu diubah adalah hati-hati manusia. Itulah yang membebankan dakwah Rasul s.a.w. selama 13 tahun pertama untuk memastikan jiwa-jiwa manusia yang akan menjadi pendokong utama Ad Deen benar-benar dikuasai oleh hati-hati yang dimiliki oleh Pemilik semua hati-hati. Setelah itu barulah terpancar nur cinta dan kasih sayang kepada umat manusia yang mampu mengakibatkan cetusan iman yang bakal menyemaikan pemangkin perubahan dari Ilahi dan bukan manusia.

Ia bermula dengan setiap kita melihat manusia lain dengan mata hati yang penuh dengan perasaan cinta dan kasih sayang. Seperti cintanya Allah s.w.t. kepada ciptaanNya yang dia telah anugerahkan dengan segala-galanya untuk membolehkan insan itu membanggakan si Pencipta didepan para malaikat.

Marilah kita ubahkan perjuangan kita untuk berprinsipkan cinta dan kasih sayang kepada setiap umat manusia seperti cinta Rasul s.a.w. kepada umatnya. Semoga hati-hati inilah nanti yang akan diizinkan Allah s.w.t. untuk menikmati keindahan hakiki dengan terkesannya hati-hati manusia lain yang disentuhi mereka. Selainnya adalah tugas Allah s.w.t. dan Dia telah menjanjikan dalam Al-Quran akan berbondong-bondongnya manusia yang bakal menerima Ad Deen. Saat itulah akan terlihat sekali lagi kebenaran Islam sebagai Rahmatan lil Alamin.

Marilah kita yang telah terlibat dalam perjuangan membela nasib umat, mulakan perubahan dengan hati-hati kita dahulu.

InsyaAllah, setelah itu, dorongan kita tidak hanya untuk ‘jalankan tugas’. Tetapi ia terdorong oleh perasaan cinta dan kasih sayang kita untuk tidak rela menyaksikan setiap umat manusia yang kita seharusnya sayangi tertinggal daripada kesyurga bersama Rasul s.a.w.

Kematian-Kematian

Pagi ini ana terima 2 kabar sedih. Subuh lagi terima sms dari akh helmy sampai kabar sedih kematian ayah tersayang rakan seperjuangan kita yg sedang merantau di bumi barat. Ust Embek Ali telah kerahmatullah. Semoga Allah swt menerima segala sumbangan pendiri Islam hebat di tanahair kita ini.

Sekitar jam 9 pula selepas ana meeting dgn Akh Razak, terima call dari ibu dengan kabar sedih kedua hari ini. Berita bahawa pakcik ana (abang bapa) meninggal dunia pagi tadi juga. Baru aja sempat kunjung Mamu Adam (nama gelaran sayang kami) pada hari pertama lebaran kemarin. Sungguh tak disangka itu adalah kali terakhir kita bersua. Semoga Allah swt memberi keampunan dan keringanan kepada ruh beliau di alam barzakh dan alam akhirat.

Ana benar2 harus mengambil kabar2 ini dengan penuh refleksi diri. Semoga keinsafan timbul dalam hati untuk meningkatkan lagi usaha demi ad Deen dgn umur yg masih ada ini.

10 Malam Istimewa

Alhamdulillah.

Segala pujian hanya utk Allah swt. Yang berkuasa atas segala-galanya. Tuhan yang menjadi seruan makhluk ciptaanNya. Rabb yang telah menganugerahkan malam-malam istimewa pada bulan suci Ramadan. Selawat dan salam keatas Nabi akhir zaman, Rasulullah saw, Muhammad bin Abdullah.

Dipanjatkan setinggi kesyukuran kepada yang menguasai segala kejadian, Allah swt. Dengan izinNya, kita telah bertemu ke penghujung Ramadan setelah tibanya malam pertama di malam-malam penutup bulan Ramadan.

Masjid-masjid merata dunia, dihidupkan dengan manusia-manusia yang berharap keampunan Ilahi dan kebebasan daripada petaka neraka. Dalam titisan air mata keinsafan, gugurlah hendaknya dosa-dosa kita angkara kelemahan-kelemahan dan sifat alpa.

Bagi yang tidak berpeluang utk beriktikaf di Masjid, tetaplah dengan usaha keras menjalankan ibadah masing-masing walaupun dalam keadaan apapun. Bukan kah pada 10 terakhir bulan Ramadan telah terbukanya Spain, Italy dan Perancis dihujung pedang Tariq bin Ziyad pada tahun 92H, serta kehebatan Saifuddin Qutz, yang menyatukan tentera Islam bagi menghalang bala-tentera Mongol di Ain Jalut pada 26 Ramadan 648H, dan kebebaskan Baitul Maqdis dicapai oleh Salahuddin Al Ayubbi, juga di akhir bulan Ramadan pada 682H.

Gak ada sebab utk kita memberi apapun alasan dari beribadah pada akhir-akhir Ramadan ini. Karena jelas ibadah bisa dilakukan cara khusus Ibadah di Masjid maupun Ibadah menegakkan kebenaran, mencegah kezaliman, mempertahankan golongan lemah dan sebagainya di akhir-akhir bulan suci Ramadan ini. Yang penting, setiap Muslim tingkatkan berubudiah samada di rumah Allah maupun di medan perjuangan dakwah fisabilillah.

Alangkah indahnya jika turunnya lailatul qadar berlaku di saat kita tekun bermunajat atas sajadah ataupun semasa keringat bertitis di tubuh sedang kita menjalankan tanggungjawab fisabilillah.

Ayoh teman-teman seperjuangan di mana pun anda, bergegaslah kita menggapai embunan ruh dan para malaikat di malam yang sungguh istimewa yang telah dijanji luar biasa.

Semoga setiap jiwa bisa merasai keindahan Nur Allah azza wajal dan mendapat ampunan serta kabar gembira berupa al-Jannah. InsyaAllah.

Allahu Akbar. The school that collaborated with Madrasah Al-Irsyad Singapore was officially launched on 25 August 2008 in Surabaya, Indonesia. Below is a video presentation done by the teachers of the school. It captures the essence of the 3 months of hard work that they put to bring true the dream of an Islamic International School in the remote city of Magetan, East Java, Indonesia. We at Madrasah Al-Irsyad are most grateful to Allah s.w.t. for blessing us with the opportunity to be part of that dream. May Allah s.w.t. continue to aid and protect us in this effort for His Deen.

Ayat-Ayat Cinta ... The Book

Alhamdulillahi Robbil A'lamin.

Segala puji-pujian hanya utk Allah s.w.t., Tuhan yang diseru segala yg ujud di sekelian alam. Di panjatkan kesyukuran setinggi gunung dan yang melangit kepada Ilahi. Selawat dan salam keatas baginda Rasul, Habibullah, Muhammad Bin Abdullah.

For some reason, I was introduced to the book Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy. And for some reason, I took the opportunity of the long trip back from the mountainous town of Magetan, the location of the new Islamic Intenational School that I was helping to setup, to read the book. I finished it 2 days later. What a wonderful book it was.

I have never read a 'love story' before, so frankly, I do not have the luxury of comparing it to other books, but I have to say that I shed many tears throughout the reading, and it was beautiful. Even my traveling companion 'kaget' (indonesian for shocked) to see my teary eye sitting next to me on our flight home.

Subhanallah, how my life turned and twisted just like the meandering road from Solo to Magetan, up the picturesque slopes of Gunung Lawu, whose foot it was resides the humble home of the 'new' IIS PSM (Islamic International School Pesantren Sabilil Muttaqin). How did I end up here? I wondered. A fairy tale of my own making in the humble 2-storey white building, a symbolic gesture of the still existence purity of this majestic land of Indonesia.

The book was indeed a fitting end to the 10 days I spent in this blessed land that is so fertile, for being on truly volcanic soil. Even Gunung Merapi is still spewing smoke continously and the people just go on with life with a volcano just above them. How different are our views of life? The people of Jawa Timur live with the land, while I live off the land.

I honestly can't recall when was the craze for the movie Ayat-Ayat Cinta here. But I was told by the Indonesian teachers of IIS that it was a local 'blockbuster hit'. Then, I remembered my wife sharing about the movie and in the casual exchange somehow I had the impression that, well, ok, it was a 'good' movie and one that somehow had a poligamy twist to it. It went no further than that. It did not strike me to go see it then.

Now, I would recommend the book as a must read for all young people for its beautifully composed literature that captured the contemporary reality with all its irony, hopes and achieveable idealism. InsyaAllah. I can't say the same for the movie though. Although it has its own magic. And yes, I have seen it too.

The content in the book is loaded with beautifully written words, littered with Qur'anic ayat, important lessons from the life of the Sahabis, the Ulama and the teachings of our beloved Prophet s.a.w. Yes, I do believe that there are still such worthy personalities as the Wise Sheikhs in the book, Sheikh Ahmad and Sheikh Uthman, the Honest public servant and police officer, the reality of 'True' dreams, the many human tragedies and sufferings, the promises of a better future - even one that has to wait until the next life, the test of 'Fitnah' endured by many in the cells of merciless tyrants by the Prophets, Ulamas of the past as well as the Known & Unknown believers today, and the individual sacrifices that many made in the name of love, be it for their parents, siblings, friends, acquaintances, husband, wife, children or the special person that one loves so much.

I will end with the verse that i think anchors the storyline in Ayat-Ayat Cinta,

"... Barang siapa yang bertaqwa kepada Allah, nescaya Dia akan mengadakan baginya jalan keluar. Dan memberinya rezeki dari arah yang tiada disangka-sangkanya. Dan barang siapa yang bertawakal kepada Allah niscaya Allah akan mencukupkan (keperluan) nya. Sesungguhnya Allah melaksanakan urusan (yang dikehendaki) Nya. Sesungguhnya Allah telah mengadakan ketentuan bagi tiap-tiap sesuatu." Surah At-Talaq 65:2-3

Pemindahan kubah tanpa bantuan kren

Klip ini diterima dari seorang sahabat. Kisah ini berlaku awal tahun ini di PULAU MALIBU, Indon. Sebuah MASJID baru telah dibina di sebuah kampung di PULAU MALIBU. Namun mereka tiada kren untuk pindahkan KUBAH dari MASJID lama ke MASJID yang baru.

Maka seramai lebih kurang 3000 orang qiyai telah berkumpul di MASJID tersebut untuk berzikir. Dengan Rahmat Dan kebesaran Allah KUBAH dari MASJID lama 'diangkat Dan dipindahkan' ke atas menara MASJID yang baru hanya dengan zikirullah.

Mengikut cerita lanjut dari teman yg merakamkan video ini, qiyai2 tersebut telah berpuasa selama 3 hari dan berqiamullail selama 3 malam bermunajat kpd Allah sebelum mereka berzikir dan 'mengangkat' kubah tersebut. Ramai yang histeria melihatkan keajaiban tersebut.

Humanity and its ending ....

Mankind moves ever closer to its destiny to end.

As the Prophets foretold, each one repeats the same line over and over again to wake the sleepy man from his dream of a world without end.

The rules of man are driven by greed and a carnal appetite to get all that he wants for himself only. The world he thinks is his. He grabs it and destroys. The mountain so huge caused no destruction, it erupts occasionally to trigger renewal. Yet the tiny man abuses, kills and corrupts. He owns that which is not his and do not wish to share.

The earth which the Creator designed is spacious and can provide for all that resides on and in her. Yet the tiny man carved out and made what is for all, his own to keep. The arrogance of his self as he declares ownership for everything that never belongs to him. He then wonders foolishly why there are not enough as he sees the others not having as he is. He claims that humanity is too plenty and there are too many mouth to feed.

The rules of natural law is subordinated and declared obsolete by him. He sets his own unnatural laws and imposes rules to legitimize his unlawful and shameful thievery.

The day will come and the 'dead' are watching.

The living and the dying are questions of biology, a bi-product of an anti-God western philosophy. The essence of life becomes void of spirituality. Man is body, body and body; and thus no need to feed his spirit. His body will die and abandons the infant spirit exposed, unprotected and lonely.

He struggles and competes tirelessly in piling up all that is worldly and awakens only when he is dead to realise the truth of his reckoning.

The dead are waiting and the 'living' dies eventually.

The Prophet s.a.w. mentioned in a long hadith on the signs of the end times .... , "When there will be plenty of food, but very little rahmat...."

As I drink coffee, its fairly academic the news of a looming or already present food crisis in the world. Somewhere in Rome, the 'leaders' of the world are meeting to deliberate about it. On the air, analyst in the form of news reporters spew out commentaries of possible causes.

It is mainly about the 'spiralling' or spiking oil price that no one seems to be able to do anything about.

Are not most or a sizeable number of those oil producing countries run by Muslims. Don't they know that many poor people around the world are suffering due to the high oil price? As Muslims, aren't we told by the Prophet s.a.w. to not over price and corner the market. The Qur'an describes those who do so as evil and oppressors.

Its not the Muslims said an 'expert' commentator, it is the speculators in New York who trade oil futures. They are the one who causes the spike in the price of oil.

No no no ... its because oil is running out. It has reached its peak and thus the market forces naturally takes over. Demand and supply dictates the inevitable. Increase demand and short supply equals increase price. Simple economics.

Why must they trade oil futures in New York. Why can't countries who produce the oil deal direct with each other and set the price and not follow the 'speculators' who strike deals to only benefit their margins and commissions.

The Arabs had never had it this good. Just look at the rate of physical development and islands that they are constructing, reclaiming and creating along the gulf. Money thrown to build islands in the sea for the filthy rich to play. Why are we so naive as to expect them of all people, to do something to bring the price down. They are reaping the benefit of the spike in oil price. Just look and see how they spent.

I wonder what would Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. be saying as he looks down from above at his 'rich' Arab brethen.... Muslims .... but where is Islam?

Robbul 'Alamin

Alif Lam Min... This is the Book; In it is guidance sure, without doubt, to those who fear (conscious of) Allah; Who believe in the unseen (al-ghaib), are steadfast in prayer, and spend out of what We have provided for them....

Suratul Baqarah begins by declaring the Wahyu sent to Muhammad s.a.w. as huda (guidance) to the God-conscious (muttaqin). The muttaqin is then defined as those who believe in al-Ghaib (the unseen), prays consistently and spent on others what Allah has endowed.

The Arkanul Iman list 6 article of faith of which all deals with the unseen. Although the believe in Ar-Rasul and the Kitab are technically tangible items, they both can also be defined and understood to be al-Ghaib as the Kitab is Wahyu or Kalamullah and the Rasul are no longer with us.

Yet, we are often too eager to simplify believe into mainly the definition of material perception. Whereas, the very issue of faith is essentially non-material or more refined as spiritual. In the context of a highly material world the issue of spiritual discussion is mostly sidelined. It is ironic that today we are easily statisfied with a material understanding of faith. Science and modern academia has done wonders to glorifying the brain and the reduction of mankind to focus on his material base.

We are both flesh and spirit, but we limit our awareness of ourselves to more about our material wellbeing and care less of our spirit.

The connection with the spiritual is via prayers. It is the bridge that carries and triggers our spirituality. Without it, we are mere preachers of spirituality but devoid of any spiritual reality.

Modern man has neglected his true self when he reduces the spirit to the wayside. He grows in his material self in intellect and body but fails to realise that he is a mere spiritual infant. Thus he will never be able to comprehend the full spleandour of the utterance of praise he makes daily to the Robbul 'Alamin. It will remain so, as long as he relies on the limitation of his intellect to understand the Lord of all the Worlds.

A Change Gonna Come

Alhamdulillah. After more than 6 years of running my own company, I have made a bold move to rejoin the working (employed) world. I began my work at Madrasah Al-Irsyad early this week. It has been a fulfilling first week at my new home (office). I began my journey back in Dec 2001 (with the setting of The Educational Hive) and it was with another Madrasah then. The desire to be a part of the Islamic education fraternity has somewhat led me back into the heart of one. I am truly humbled by the human spirit and energy that resides in Al-Irsyad. I pray to Allah s.w.t. to give me the ability to do my best in serving His cause there. InsyaAllah.

The unexpected is always pleasant to someone when the outcome is something that is a promising prospect for better times ahead.

On the 9th of March 2008 the outcome of the Malaysian 12th election showed Malaysian rejection of the status quo by voting to stop the ruling Barisan Nasional from getting the 2 third majority in parliament. They did more than that by voting in the opposition to take over 5 of the state assemblies. Besides Kelantan and Penang, even the opposition themselves were pleasantly surprise to see Kedah, Perak and Selangor fell into opposition hands. If you discount the states of Sabah and Sarawak, it would mean that majority of Malaysian rejected BN.

There are many lessons to draw from the events across the causeway. For one thing, truth has its own way of coming out no matter how it is suppressed.

Anwar Ibrahim, becomes the latest in the ranks of individuals that defy the logic of the powerful shamefully using the instruments of control to hold on to their greed, yet unable to succeed. He said in a rally in Kelantan before the vote was cast, that his greatest lesson through the difficult years as he was brutally treated by the full force of the establishment, were, patience, humility, recognition of his limitations and trust in the hands of Allah s.w.t.

At a personal level, I have been quietly following the Malaysian political scene since the day Anwar was removed from his DPM post in 1998. Almost ten years later, we now see the return of Anwar into the mainstream of Malaysian politics. If I followed just through the mainstream media of both Malaysia and Singapore TV, I would have concluded that Anwar can no longer play any influence in Malaysia. However, by relying on the alternative media in the internet, the picture was very different.

“… Unto every one of you have We appointed a [different] law and way of life. And if God had so willed, He could surely have made you all one single community: but [He willed it otherwise] in order to test you by means of what He has given unto, you. Vie, then, with one another in doing good works! Unto God you all must return; and then He will make you truly understand all that on which you were wont to differ.”(Surah 5:48)

“And thereupon, by God's leave, they routed them. And David slew Goliath; and God bestowed upon him dominion, and wisdom, and imparted to him the knowledge of whatever He willed. And if God had not enabled people to defend themselves against one another, corruption would surely overwhelm the earth: but God is limitless in His bounty unto all the worlds.” (Surah 2:251)

“.. those who have been driven from their homelands against all right for no other reason than their saying. “Our Sustainer is God!” For, if God had not enabled people to defend themselves against one another, all] monasteries and churches and synagogues and mosques - in [all of] which Gods name is abundantly extolled - would surely have been destroyed. And God will most certainly succour him who succours His cause: for, verily, God is most powerful, almighty,” (Surah 22:40)

The above ayat from the Qur’an spells a powerful hidden force of Divine order that exist and prevail through the history of man. It is the natural course of human dynamic as ordained by Allah s.w.t. that at anytime whenever oppression takes place, there will rise the opponent to cause the dethronement of the evil in the land. The story of how David slew Goliath, tells about the bias hand of God to aid those who placed their trust in Him even though they are the underdog facing insurmountable odds.

The events in Malaysia represents a ‘live’ show of the inevitable fall upon all forms of power that abuses its position and became unjust, unfair and oppressive. Who woefully turns a blind eye and ear towards those who struggles daily and are crying for help. The humility of the leaders of the Malaysian opposition be it PKR, PAS and DAP in victory are truly memorable. Allahu Akbar.

It is also heartening to see the coming together of people of diverse ethnicity and beliefs. It bear witness to the power of humanity that Allah s.w.t. has ordained to be of different ethnicity and creed having to strive to do good and forbid evil. May the events of 9 March 2008 be an example for true cooperation of multi-ethnic and multi-religious people throughout the World. Alhamdulillah.

Life & Death

Someone remarked, "Its amazing how death can pull people together." For it is one of those rare moment in life when we suddenly realise what life is really all about.

Pak Amat Sirat, the late father of Dr Albakri, was the first President of the Muslim Fellowship of Singapore, the forerunner of what became FMSA in 1994. He was remembered by many for his laborious patience in listening to the young minds and their fervour for Islam. Seeing his face for the last time at the cemetary bring back fond memories of the man who has seen through all the difficult times of the early struggles of the Jamaah. It needed his generational wisdom and fatherly fortitude to bring together such a diverse group of young people with such energy and unique set of individual characteristics and ideas. When I prayed at his open grave after the soil has been laid on his wooden coffin, I uttered instantaneously the following words in my heart, "O Allah, be kind and merciful to Pak Amat, I do witness that he has done a wonderful job to bring us together in Your cause. He was a father to all of us in our little-little struggles in life. We will continue the work he started and may he be continously rewarded for inspiring us to do Your work, O Allah. Forgive him O Allah and let us meet again in Jannah one day. Amin"

I am please to see so many brothers who are part of the Jamaah in one way or another through the years of our struggles and dakwah. Through the hugs I see hope for ukhuwah Islamiah and it must be heartening for the memory of Pak Amat to witness in his passing, the coming together of hearts that remain apart for a while ....

The Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. in his final sermon made a truly remarkable reminder of keeping ourselves as one. He said among other things, " ... All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves. ..."

At death, we all will wish and hope to see again the ones that we have left behind someday. The door has closed for the moment and we seek for the future when we will be reunited again with all our brothers who share the path of our journey before.

Like Pak Amat, when we die one day, we would by now has seen the truth of life beyond this material world. We would have been shown the prelude of our life to come and hopefully it is one that offers a rewarding tear in our eyes and a smile in our face.

We too would have had a glimpse of the agonising pain of those who defied the nikmah of his Creator. In that state, we will surely hope that those still living get over the trivialities of divisive words of differences, as what matters at death far exceed such issues in the eyes of our Creator.

A life of a beloved fatherly brother has just ended .... let those still alive rise up to live life again. Let Allah s.w.t. unite our hearts to work together through the diversity of where we are and strive for Him in a unified way to bring our small ummah in Singapore to be a living embodiment of the shinning spirit of the akhlak of Rasulullah s.a.w.

"And hold fast, all together, unto the bond with God, and do not draw apart from one another. And remember the blessings which God has bestowed upon you: how, when you were enemies, He brought your hearts together, so that through His blessing you became brethren; and [how, when] you were on the brink of a fiery abyss. He saved you from it. In this way God makes clear His messages unto you, so that you might find guidance," (Surah Al-Imran 3:103)

The Young Muslim Brother ...

Young Muslims today whether they be in JC or Polytechnic are always facing the many challenges of life at the most prime of their teen. Conventional modern day thinking would place tops other than pursuit of studies, establising relationship or BGR during college/Poly days. The pressure is intense during Valentines Day and college Proms. Many Young Muslims inevitably join in the fray and began pairing up. The excitement of the moment get the better of most. The lovey tunes all work a frenzy of emotions and thus begin the spark of what is supposedly love.

Religion became an inconvenient hassle in the young couples quest to built a relationship. It requires going out together to movies, lunch, dinner, etc. etc. How can the young Muslim maintain right conduct in a relationship? The physical attraction soon grows and eventually what started out as friendship turns to courtship and physical intimacy begins. It follows a script seen on TV, read in magazines, seen on the net, someone said so .... It usually ends, the relationship never last. How could it, it was more about lust. The expert says, man gives love to get sex, while woman give sex to get love. How true ....

Then how, one may ask, can i get to know about him/her with no relationship between us?

Know for what?

If knowing is for the purpose of interacting, than a casual normal friendship should suffice. Everyone interacts in school. Why must there be that special one so soon?

Islam teaches about the value of man and woman as set by God Himself. God establishes order for all things. Everything has its place and time. He created and sets that Man/woman relationship is most sacred. He raise the honour and dignity of woman and man. He knows our tendencies towards the other sex. He tells us to guard ourselves, coz failing it, we will regret. No one listens today. The music is just too loud. The hormones too much. The pleasure too great. The risk too easy to ignore.

Soon, the virginity is lost, the boy is gone. The girl is desperate, and she succumbs over and over again. The dignity lost, the vulnerable girl soon gets exploited and loses hope of ever being saved by the honourable young man out there. And few are left today.

Islam teaches prevention, it advices control, it pleads for protection, it wishes for the best in human dignity and it honours the woman. And if necessary, Islam offers many second chances.

Where is the young Muslim brother who will raise the honour and dignity of our sisters. Where is the young Muslim brother who will be different than the others. Who will show the way of respecting our sisters. To share with our sisters the value of chastity by himself being chaste. He must resist the temptation to be like everyone else by having that special one as the time for such things is not now.

Now is the time to reset our mission in life. To pursue a goal to make a change to oneself and strive to address the many needs of our society, community, family and self. To right the many wrongs that have caused misery to many. Arise, Our Young Muslim Brother..... Its time to come forward!

"Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, because Allah has given the one more (strength) than the other, and because they support them from their means. ...." Surah An-Nisa:34

Friends

Another issue close to the heart of the participants is about dealing with friends. We hear the worries of losing friends as a result of changes felt by peers towards them as well as how best to share with friends the beauty of Ad-Deenul Islam.

Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. talks about friends. In one hadith, the influence of friends is described by the analogy of keeping company with a blacksmith and a perfume seller, the former causing the unwelcomed smell of burnt iron or metal whereas the latter gives the benefit of a nice aroma of perfume. In other words a person would eventually carry in his or her personality and behaviour of his or her friend. While in another clearer hadith, the Prophet s.a.w. states that one will follow the religion of his or her friend. Therefore, it is important that young Muslims today should care who are the friends that they keep company with.

As for our young participants, they should view their new found inspiration and motivation with the vigour to maintain their friendship with their peers. Even if your friends sense the change eminating through your behaviour and attitude, these are positive energy that should be allowed to work it ways to them too.

As Muslims, we should avoid severing ties with our friends unless they ask us to do something that will not please Allah s.w.t. Ultimately, we all pray to Allah s.w.t. to allow our friends to be given the opportunity to taste the sweetness of ad-Deen just like we had.

"... Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who came before us into the Faith, and leave not, in our hearts, rancour (or sense of injury) against those who have believed. Our Lord! Thou art indeed Full of Kindness, Most Merciful." Surah Al-Hasr 59:10

Lessons from the story about the Taxi Driver

My sharing on the taxi driver and his exclamation of shock towards the Malay girl who topped the PSLE for 2007 serves to highlight not so much the biasness or stereotype of some segment of the Singapore community towards the Malays, but it provides a useful insight into the changing realities of the Singapore multi-racial landscape.

I later on shared the need to patiently communicate to the other races, especially the majority Chinese community about Islam and our values. Direct communication through friendship and neighbourly interaction are important means to do so. At the same time, the experience I shared on the socio-psyche impact of the PSLE success on the Chinese taxi-driver, gives a valuable lesson on the transformative effect that such achivements will do.

In the long run, if more of such stories happened, it would help to educate and the other communities about the fact that Muslims holding on to their faith and earnestly striving to maintain it, are not what they traditionally perceive as backward or uneducated. This would over time change the suspicion or negative attitude that may exists between the different races.

The BRMY camp was successful too in other ways. It showcases the collective effort of the organisers comprising of not only FMSA members but members of NTUMS and NUSMS. We also had the brilliant mind of Bro Khairul Rijal from Saff. It serves as a useful precedent towards future joint efforts that cut across organisational lines. It is a testimony of Ukhuwah Islamiah among the organisers. May Allah s.w.t strengthened our resolves to strive together for His wonderful Deen. InsyaAllah.

Alhamdulillah, the BMRY camp successfully left a big impact on the students as well as organisers. It inspired and motivated. The lump in the throat was felt many times near the end of the camp. It was tears shed for gratefulness. The sweet taste of Iman and Ukhuwah can never be captured but experienced. InsyaAllah.

Allah described in the Qur'an:-

3:103 And hold fast, all together, unto the bond with God, and do not draw apart from one another. And remember the blessings which God has bestowed upon you: how, when you were enemies, He brought your hearts together, so that through His blessing you became brethren; and [how, when] you were on the brink of a fiery abyss.

Allah has offered us His rope over the weekend, lets all hold on to it with all the strength we can.

Onwards, in our wonderful journey ahead for Allah s.w.t.
